The message from water .

Dr. Masaru Emoto and his team experiment with water. Before freezing it, the water is exposed to music, prayers, typed words or pictures. Depending on its former exposure, the water – when changing its state of aggregation – responds very differently by forming all kinds of altered crystals. These are some results taken with a microscope camera, you can see more here or read about it there.

America the gift shop .

Although it is out of date, the ‘America the Gift Shop‘ project by Philip Toledano is still very worth a post. It “is an installation that reflects the foreign policy of the Bush/Cheney regime, in the fun-house mirror of American commerce.” When we buy a souvenir, it will remind us of the events that happened during the 8 year long Bush era.

CERN .

Higher Level Physics really gave me a hard time back then in school. Nevertheless stuff like CERN really interests me. CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is trying to find out what the Universe is made of and how it works. So actually what they are trying to do is to immitate the Big Bang. In order to do so accelerators boost beams of particles to high energies before they are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets. After over one year of pause due to technical problems, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN is now once again spinning particles through a 27 km long circle tube system. CERN is located near Geneva.

The Animatic .

The Animatic is a large scale entertaining Rube Goldberg machine built by Yuri Suzuki & Hosuehold.  It was exhibited at Craft Punk at the Salone del Mobile in Milan this April. The machine is triggered by playing a 45 record at it’s start. The turntable’s motion sets off a series of small individual animating machines. I love that they chose “Memphis Tennessee” by Silicon Teens to start the machine since we like to spin the “Lets dance” record. If you enjoy such stuff, i highly recommend you to watch “Der Lauf der Dinge“. By the way – Yuri Suzuki and Masa Kimura  also built a breakfast machine that serves you egg and coffee.
